Project summary
For a research-intensive institute working to improve health outcomes of disadvantaged populations across the globe, ensuring partnerships with researchers in the Global South are equitable, and that the intended beneficiaries are centred in the design, implementation and dissemination of research projects are both fundamental to our mission. This proposal is a partnership with four African research institutes and addresses two challenges that can negatively impact the culture of global health research partnerships a) Capacity gaps in research management skills which perpetuate power imbalances and b) Lost opportunities for research uptake resulting from short term funding cycles. In consultation with staff across the partnership we have identified resource and knowledge gaps in programme administration, research management and knowledge exchange as key risks to a positive research culture in global health research and designed a series of activities and pilots to directly address these areas. The activities proposed are purposively designed to strengthen interprofessional collaboration and lead to a greater recognition of the roles and contributions of different professions to research outcomes.
